The Basic Rules of Craps

Craps was known before as crabs. It is a dice game in the casino. Craps is a simplified game of the Old English called hazard. The origins of craps is complex and could date up to the Crusades. It was influenced later on by some French gamblers. It was brought to America in New Orleans by a wealthy man, Bernard Xavier de Marigny. He was also a gambler and politician. The game which was first named crapaud, owes the modern popularity it has from the African-American community.

The players wager their money against the casino house. They bet on the result of the roll. Craps is reported to be popular among the soldiers that means that craps can be played in a setting not so formal. In not so formal settings the frequency of side bets are higher.

Rules of play

The Craps is played by one or more players. The players take turn in rolling the two dice. The "shooter" is the player rolling the dice. Craps is played in rounds. The first roll of the new round is called the "come-out roll".

If the total of the two dice from the come-out roll are two, three, seven, eleven and twelve, that round ends. The shooter will roll another "come-out roll".

The result of two, three or twelve is called the "craps" and the result of seven or eleven is called the win or the "natural". When there are other numbers rolled from the come-out roll, the number becomes the "point". If the point is already established the shooter will roll the dice again continuously until either the point is rolled again or until the seven is rolled. When the shooter rolls the point once again, the round ends and the play will start over with the same person as the shooter rolling out another come-out roll.

When the shooter rolls a seven instead of a point, it is called the "seven-out", that round will end and the dice pass to the next person (player) to the left, who will become the next shooter.

The Craps players can actually make higher number of bets. Most of them are betting on the outcome of the round and how it will finish either the seven out comes or the point does. Other forms of betting in craps can also include betting on the particular total rolled, or on a particular total being rolled before the seven.
